Google Search Profile Badge: How to Add It to Your Website

Google published a new guide in September 2026 explaining how website owners, publishers, and creators can add a Search profile badge to their site. The badge is a link to a claimed Google Search profile; it is not a ranking guarantee or a substitute for a useful website.

This practical guide explains what the profile is, who can currently create one, how to add a badge in WordPress, and how to check that the link is accessible and accurate.

What is a Google Search profile?

A Search profile brings together a creator or publisher’s linked content and social accounts in one Google destination. Google says readers who follow a profile may be more likely to see linked content in Discover. The profile is separate from your website, and adding a badge simply helps visitors reach it.

Availability note: Google’s current Help page says Search profiles are available only in the United States. It lists a minimum of 10,000 followers or subscribers on at least one of YouTube, Instagram, X, or TikTok, and an age requirement of 18 or older. Check Google’s Help page for current eligibility before planning implementation.

Find your profile URL and official badge

  1. Claim or locate your Search profile through Google’s profile service.
  2. Copy its exact profile URL. Google documents the format as https://profile.google.com/@handle, replacing handle with your actual profile handle.
  3. Download the official badge assets from Google’s Search profile documentation and follow its brand guidance.
  4. Do not use a badge to imply Google has verified, endorsed, or certified your business beyond what the profile itself states.

Add the badge in WordPress

For a block-based theme, add a Custom HTML block in the footer, author bio, About page, or social-links area. Upload the official badge asset to your Media Library and use its actual file URL in the image source. Replace the example profile URL below with your claimed profile URL.

<a href="https://profile.google.com/@YOUR_HANDLE" aria-label="Find us on Google Search">
  <img src="https://example.com/path/to/google-search-badge.svg" alt="Google Search">
</a>

Use the actual asset URL from your own WordPress Media Library; the example domain and handle are placeholders. If your editor or theme strips SVG uploads, use an official asset format supported by your site, or use a simple text link instead.

Prefer a simple text link?

Google also documents a text-only option suitable for an article byline, newsletter, or creator bio:

<a href="https://profile.google.com/@YOUR_HANDLE">Find us on Google Search</a>

Accessibility and brand checks

  • Make the clickable target at least 44 × 44 px on web and iOS, and 48 × 48 dp on Android.
  • Use the official badge artwork without stretching, rotating, recoloring, or distorting it.
  • Keep icon styles consistent; avoid mixing monochrome and colorful badge treatments.
  • When showing both Search profile and Preferred Sources badges, use the clearly labeled Search profile button so visitors can distinguish the destinations.
  • Test the link on mobile and desktop, and ensure the accessible label and image alternative text make the destination understandable.

Place the link where readers expect creator or publisher identity links.

Where should you place it?

Choose a location where visitors already expect social or creator identity links: the site footer, About page, author bio, or a creator profile page. Avoid placing it beside checkout trust marks or security seals where it could be mistaken for a payment or safety certification.

How to measure whether it helps

Set a baseline before adding the link. If your analytics setup can track outbound clicks, record clicks on the badge or text link and compare them over a reasonable period. Do not interpret profile clicks as proof of improved Google rankings. The practical purpose is to help interested visitors find your connected content.

Frequently asked questions

Does adding the badge improve SEO rankings?

Google’s badge guide describes a way to direct an audience to a Search profile. It does not say that adding the badge is a ranking factor or guarantees additional search visibility.

Can a business in Pakistan create a Search profile?

Google’s current Help page says Search profiles are currently available only in the United States. Check the official page for changes in availability and eligibility.

Can I use a text link instead of the image badge?

Yes. Google documents a plain text link as an alternative for bylines, newsletters, and bio links.

Will followers see my website articles in Discover?

Google says following a Search profile makes linked content more likely to appear for that audience in Discover. This is not a guarantee that a particular article will be shown.
